Life Cycle Cost
Why are centrifugal pumps without shaft seals increasingly used for conveying media in chemical engineering and process technology?
★ The procurement process of the centrifugal pump also needs to consider the cost of its life cycle. The sealing system accounts for a considerable proportion of the total cost incurred during the use process.
★ Calculating the total cost of a centrifugal pump over its working life mainly considers investment costs, installation, energy, maintenance, service and repair costs.
★ The purchase cost of the pump generally only accounts for 5%-10% of the total cost. It is very important to consider the life cycle cost of the pump in the long run.
★ The mean time between failures (MTBF = mean time between failures) of various pumps are shown in the graph above, according to the results of a survey of chemical companies' field usage over the years. These data show that canned pumps have higher MTBF values than centrifugal pumps with mechanical seals.
